Preliminary Task - Double Page Spread

This is the double page spread of my preliminary task. Me, Marcus and Danny worked on different aspects of this page. I did all of the editing and was in charge of finalising the questions that Marcus had written; Marcus also took the picture the we used for our double page spread. Danny went around 6th form and ask teachers what they thought which were the quotes used in the article. Before doing all of this, I looked at real media double page spread and with this information I guided Marcus and told him what codes and conventions should be included when editing. I also added the school logo behind the article, this is due to my research I found that the majority of double page spreads had an image or text behind the article. Overall the final product looks quite professional as it uses most the codes and conventions that would be seen in other magazines. however, I would liked to have changed the layout of the article if I had more time into columns to make it look more like an double page spread.

Preliminary Task - Contents Page

This is the contents page for me, Marcus and Danny Williamson's school magazine. I was in charge of editing while Marcus was the one taking the photo. I went into Photoshop to complete this contents page. We used a very similar layout to keep the magazine more uniform by using a white background. In my research noticed that a lot of contents pages have a subscribe for more on the page that anyone can enter. Because of this, I decided this would be great for our magazine as it is very interactive and it is something our target audience would like. We have used the same font as on our front cover as well to get a more uniformed and professional look and fell for the magazine. Overall I believe this is a very successful contents page as it uses codes and conventions that are seen in real media magazines.

Preliminary Task - Magazine Front Cover

To create this magazine front cover for my preliminary task, I worked in a group - Marcus Lam and Danny Williamson. The software we used was Adobe Photoshop. The first thing we agreed we would do is get a picture of a few students in front of the school. This straight away connotes to the audience that our magazine is a school magazine. In our research we took influence off other school magazines and found that they use codes and conventions similar to music magazine such as; a masthead, cover lines, puff, graphical feature with free incentive, and links to social media like Twitter and Facebook.

I produced a questionnaire on Microsoft Word, the me and Marcus did a questionnaire to find out what the audience would like in the audience. One of the questions we asked was what  would you like to see in a school magazine. The majority of people we asked said between revision tips or something like school gossip and information. Therefore we put revision tips on our front cover.
